The gouache painting was inspired by a photograph of Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan. There was an acute sense of longing in her body language and expression, and I am a sucker for polka dots.

To me, this is someone who doesn’t want to be alone and is attempting to manifest their lover who is hundreds of miles away to magically appear before them in their hotel room
