Hour Before Dawn Dark is a line from The Horses, a poem by Ted Hughes. It is a personal favourite of mine, and I wanted to entitle this one after this beloved poem. I see this work as an extension of The Mare, The Mire - similar horse, different light, and on a much larger scale.
